About Misty Mile
A New Chapter for Upper Great Highway
Following the passage of Proposition K in 2024, the Upper Great Highway has been transformed into San Francisco's newest oceanside park. After thousands of community votes, the park has been named "Misty Mile" - celebrating the characteristic fog that rolls in from the Pacific Ocean, creating a magical atmosphere along this beachside stretch.
The creation of Misty Mile represents a significant step in San Francisco's commitment to creating more green spaces and car-free zones for community enjoyment.
The Name's Origin
The name "Misty Mile" captures the essence of this unique San Francisco location, where the cool fog from the Pacific creates a mystical atmosphere as it rolls over the oceanside parkway. Community members advocated for this name to honor the natural beauty and distinctive weather patterns that make this area special.
The name was chosen after an extensive community input process, reflecting the neighborhood's desire to embrace the foggy, peaceful character of this oceanfront green space.
